So there’s been some hooha over a Dunkin’ Donuts ad in the US recently. Read more about it here. Apparently in the West, anyone donning a keffiyeh is seen as supporting terrorism. One word to describe the person who started the ruckus and, ironically, has foreign roots: xenophobe.
What next? Santa? Yeah we should all get rid of him cos he’s clearly got those communist colours goin’! Oh no, wait, he’s not a Muslim! He’s not even real! I guess he’s safe then.
In response to the ad being pulled, iMuslim created a Facebook event on the 6th of June. She also requested a graphical substitute for those who’d like to participate in the event but have no keffiyeh to put on. So please, visit her site, get on Facebook and participate in this international event.
Alright, let me explain why I’ve been too busy to come up with a new comic.
Firstly, I’ve got tonnes of work that needs to be done. I’ve got six books to work on for Muis’ Curriculum Development Project (Madrasah textbooks and activity books that’s gonna be given out to madrasahs before the school term starts), multiple jobs from Symantec (eDMs, banners, brochures, etc), talking to potential overseas clients, arranging a meeting with some professional video editors for prospective video jobs, and some other stuff I can’t be public about cos that would conflict with the company business AND bore the heck out of you.
That’s work. Then there’s personal stuff such as replying to dozens of illustration/graphic design requests from visitors to this site, discussing ideas with a couple of friends on some projects on MSN while fiddling around with my wife’s new camera, fiddling around with my Ubuntu OS and iPod Touch, meeting my family and the latest addition to it (my sister’s baby) on weekends, etc.
I’m not complaining really, I guess when someone’s this busy, God is actually occupying him/her to stay away from mischief and wrongdoing! Alhamdulillah for that!
About the comics, drawing them is the easy part, what’s difficult is trying to come up with something that’s hilarious. Ideas anyone?
Ok I admit. I should’ve done another comic already but I haven’t. Other than being busy with work, I’ve been fiddling around with Ubuntu Linux for a bit, well…a lot actually!
I’m loving Ubuntu so much! An OS which I have total control over definitely rocks my geeky socks. I’ve configured my PC for dual-booting (Vista Ultimate x64 & Ubuntu 8.04) only because I still need to keep Vista for work. I’m doing everything else on Ubuntu already, so the only reasons I have to still keep using Vista is gaming and some design work. I mean Vista’s still nice and all, but Ubuntu looks a lot sweeter and works 10x faster on my Quad Core PC.
Here’s a screenshot of my Ubuntu desktop which I totally modded:
Sweet ain’t it?
